HC Deb 08 March 1985 vol 74 cc631-2W
Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many patients in Scotland are supplied with oxygen by community pharmacists or through their own general practitioner; what is the cost of the service; how many of these patients would be classified as requiring major therapy and how many would be classified as requiring occasional use therapy; and how many patients in each of these categories use cylinder oxygen and how many use concentrators.

Mr. John MacKay

At the end of October 1984, 2,234 patients in Scotland were being supplied with oxygen by community pharmacists or through their own general practitioner. About 50 patients could be classified as requiring major therapy and the remainder as requiring occasional use therapy. All patients were supplied by means of cylinder oxygen. The total cost of the service in October 1984 was £75,661.
