HC Deb 08 March 1985 vol 74 cc620-1W
Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what provision is made by him for direct funding of energy conservation schemes for governmental and non-governmental organisations administered by his Department.

Dr. Boyson

I shall reply to the hon. Gentleman as soon as possible.

Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what measures he intends to take to save energy in hospitals and other establishments under his control in the light of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on National Health Service energy conservation.

Mr. Chris Patten

The report which was issued recently is currently under consideration. Already, as part of a public sector energy conservation drive which includes hospitals, a target for reducing energy usage by 10 per cent. at 1983–84 levels has been set for 31 March 1986. This target is to be achieved primarily by the reinforcement of "good housekeeping" measures. In addition, energy conservation measures are incorporated into all new capital projects.
