HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 cc590-1W
Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many stolen vehicles were recovered in each of the police divisions in Northern Ireland in each of the last four years.

Mr. Scott

Information in the form requested is not readily available from existing records for the period prior to 1984, and it could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The numbers of stolen vehicles recovered in each police division during 1984 were as follows:

RUC Division Vehicles Recovered
A 649
B 3,144
D 983
E 387
G 131
H 160
J 273
K 55

Mr. Peter Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people have been prosecuted for theft of vehicles in each police division in Northern Ireland in each of the last four years.

Mr. Scott

Six hundred and forty persons were proceeded against for offences relating to the taking of motor vehicles without the owners' consent in 1983. Because of changes in the Royal Ulster Constabulary's divisional structure in October 1983 this figure cannot be broken down by division for that year and divisional figures for 1984 are not necessarily comparable with those for previous years. The numbers proceeded against by division for 1981, 1982 and 1984 are as follows:

RUC Division 1981 1982 1984
A 23 40 73
B 161 214 137
C 28 57
D 41 52 76
E 55 44 31
