Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when was the last time, prior to the recent terrorist mortar bomb attack, that the chief constable or an assistant chief constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary visited Newry Royal Ulster Constabulary station.

Newry police station was visited on 8 February 1985 by the assistant chief constable with responsibility for police operations in the area covering Newry sub-division.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the temporary fabricated buildings were first erected at Newry Royal Ulster Constabulary station.

Temporary prefabricated buildings were first erected by the Police Authority for Northern Ireland at Newry Royal Ulster Constabulary station in August 1973. Additional temporary buildings were added in 1974 and 1978, and the canteen, destroyed on 28 February, was completed in December 1984.

Members of the Police Authority last visited Newry Royal Ulster Constabulary station on 30 May 1984 as part of their planned programme of visits to Royal Ulster Constabulary stations. Individual members of the authority may have visited the station since then, but no record is kept of these personal visits.
