HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 c603W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why the last meeting at which he was scheduled to discuss early retirement of senior administrators within the National Health Service was postponed.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The general question of early retirement arising out of the introduction of the general management function has been discussed on a number of occasions and is still under consideration.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many senior administrators in the National Health Service have now indicated a wish to take early retirement following the introduction of managers to the service.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Health authorities are still reviewing their structures following the appointment of general managers and most have not yet made application for the early retirement of other staff. It is therefore too soon to say how many senior administrators will wish to retire early.
