asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement with regard to the future of the Greater London council-funded CR6 project for improving taxis for people with disabilities.

Although I understand that the GLC made a financial contribution to this project to develop a new London taxi, the principal external support for the project is being given by Government under the support for innovation scheme. The research into provision for wheelchair bound and other disabled people in taxis has been undertaken by my Department. The future of the project is not dependent upon the GLC, I have no reason to believe that it is not proceeding satisfactorily.
