HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 cc600-1W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what applications he has received to vary product licences in respect of imported heat-treated factor VIII; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Three existing licences for factor VIII have been varied to provide for the inclusion of heat treatment during manufacture and the new licences to which I referred in my reply of 20 February to my hon. Friend the Member for Peterborough (Dr. Mawhinney) at columns 498–500 have now been granted.

Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what evaluation has been made by his Department of the relative economics of self-sufficiency and continued importation of factor VIII products; and if he will make the results public.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the hon. Member for Portsmouth, South (Mr. Hancock) on 19 February, at columns 446–7.
