HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 c523W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many miners were at work on Tuesday 5 March and on Wednesday 6 March; how many mines were either partly or fully operational; and how much coal was produced on those particular days.

Mr. David Hunt

There were about 158,000 NUM members not on strike on Tuesday 5 March and about 176,000 on Wednesday 6 March, equivalent to 85 and 95 per cent., respectively. There were NUM members at work at every pit on both days. The figures for production are not yet available.
