HC Deb 05 March 1985 vol 74 c478W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has any proposals to extend support for the work of the voluntary organisations in Wales.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

A special grants programme will be established, commencing in the 1985–86 financial year, which will enable assistance to be given to national and regional voluntary organisations which promote conservation or environmental improvement work within Wales. Some £60,000 will be available for the programme in 1985–86. Grants will be available to meet administrative costs or to enable organisations to undertake innovatory or experimental projects.

A press notice—a copy of which has been placed in the Library—setting out detailed information on criteria and eligibility is being issued today. I would take this opportunity of encouraging those voluntary organisations who consider they might benefit from such a programme to approach the Department as soon as possible, preferably before the end of March, but no later than 12 April.
