Mr. Corbyn

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much value added tax was raised in 1984 on sanitary protection; and what were the comparable figures for each of the two preceding years.

Businesses are not required to make returns of the VAT charged on particular supplies of goods and services and information of this kind is therefore not directly available. However, from other sources it is estimated that the yield of VAT from sales of sanitary protection for women is of the order of £15 million a year.
