HC Deb 05 March 1985 vol 74 c500W
Mr. Iain Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will allocate more resources to the communication of the dangers of heroin addiction and to the provision of treatment and advice centres; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

We have allocated £2 million to information and education about drug misuse in 1985–86. A substantial part of this will be spent on a national advertising campaign to warn young people about the effects of misusing heroin. The campaign will be carefully evaluated. The need for the allocation of further resources will be considered in the light of the evaluation results. An additional £10 million has been allocated over three years for treatment and rehabilitation services. So far 95 projects have been approved at a total cost of £7.5 million.
