Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on what basis he selected the consumer bodies set out in the answer of 20 February, Official Report, column 459, with whom he has commissioned a survey into consumers' attitudes towards and understanding of fat and nutrition labelling of foods; and if he will make a statement.

The consumer bodies concerned had already decided to carry out a survey and we joined them.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why he has not involved the Health Education Council in research in regard to food labelling.

Mrs. Fenner

We consult widely on any proposals for food labelling as required by section 118 of the Food Act 1984 and the equivalent provision of previous enactments. Those consultations have included the Health Education Council.
