HC Deb 05 March 1985 vol 74 c474W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many disabled people (a) deemed capable of open employment and (b) deemed appropriate for sheltered employment were unemployed on 31 December of each year from 1974 to 1984; and if he will give each figure as a percentage of all registered disabled people at that date.

Mr. Alan Clark

The figures requested are as follows. They relate to those unemployed disabled people registered for work with the Manpower Services Commission's jobcentres and local authority careers offices. Registration for employment at jobcentres became voluntary in October 1982, and the figures for 1982, 1983 and 1984 therefore relate only to those unemployed disabled people who chose so to register. The percentages relate to unemployed registered, disabled people only, expressed as proportions of all registered disabled people.
