§ Mr. Kirkwoodasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report (a) the maximum charge for dental treatment, including crowns or dentures, in April 1979 and (b) the maximum charge made for the same treatment in April 1984 and the percentage increase in these charges over the five year period in cash terms and in real terms.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe maximum charge for dental treatment was £30 in April 1979 and £110 in April 1984. That is an increase over the five year period of 267 per cent. in cash terms and 141 per cent. in real terms. However the £30 maximum was first fixed in April 1977 and the increase over the seven year period is 86.5 per cent. in real terms.
