HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c422W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate what increases in taxation would be required if one third of the total sum raised in local rates were raised through direct taxation, value added tax, and excise duties on all items including tobacco, alcohol and petrol, respectively.

Mr Hayhoe

I shall let my hon. Friend have a reply as soon as possible.

Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the total amount raised in taxation in the most recent year for which figures are available; how much of the total came from direct tax on people, indirect tax, company tax, capital tax, and other taxation, respectively; and what was the total sum raised in the same year in industrial, commercial and domestic local rates, respectively.

Mr. Moore

The information was given in replies the hon. Member for Thurrock (Dr. McDonald) on 11 February 1985 at columns 60–61 and to my hon. Friend the Member for Kensington (Sir B. Rhys Williams) on 12 February 1985 at columns 102–103.
