HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c354W
Sir John Farr

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what account he takes, in formulating his policy on the renewal of the general agreement on tariffs and trade multi-fibre arrangement, due to expire in 1986, of the level of employment in the United Kingdom in the textile and clothing industries and of its regional distribution; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Fletcher

In formulating our policy in what regime should succeed the current multi-fibre arrangement, the Government will take full account of the level of and trends in employment in the textile and clothing industries, bearing in mind the likely causes of such trends. The possible effects on the regional distribution of employment of a particular import policy regime will also be taken into account.
