HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c348W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the extent of investigations carried out by the Metropolitan police unit C11 into elected representatives of the people; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

No. In police investigations into crime it is immaterial whether or not a person holds elected office.

Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Metropolitan police unit C11 investigations are limited solely to those suspected of involvement in major crime; and if he will list the crimes where court proceedings have ensued with which it has been involved in investigations since its inception.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The investigations to which C11 branch contributes all concern very serious offences such as homicides, sexual assaults, armed robberies, drug trafficking and arson. It would not be practicable to give details of the cases in which prosecutions have resulted from investigations to which C11 branch has contributed.
