Estimates of employees in employment in manufacturing industry for 1955 are not available on a comparable basis to estimates for 1965 and subsequent years. From 1965 estimates are available for June each year, and for 1965 and 1975, based on the 1968 standard industrial classification, are 725,000 and 637,000 respectively. Estimates for June 1975, 1979 and 1984, based on the 1980 standard industrial classification, are 644,000, 606,000 and 437,000 respectively. The estimate for September 1984, the latest available date, is 436,000. The estimates for 1984 are provisional, and are not seasonally adjusted.
