Mr. Meacher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all current proposed hospital closures or partial closures to which community health councils are objecting.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

At 31 December 1984 the following hospital closure proposals, on which final decisions were outstanding, had been formally opposed by community health councils:

  • Markfield hospital
  • Chesterfield Royal hospital
  • Alexandra hospital
  • Foxby Hill hospital
  • Zachary Merton recovery home
  • Ashgate maternity home
  • Ashgate annex E
  • Morton hospital
  • Blakeley
  • Draycott
  • Boston General
  • Debdale Hall recovery home
  • Lawn hospital
  • Swallow Nest hospital
  • Darby Hall maternity hospital
  • Coppice hospital
  • Scott Road and Commonside hostels
  • Aughton Court

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all those hospital closures or partial closures to which community health councils have objected since 1979, indicating whether or not the closure went ahead.
