HC Deb 04 March 1985 vol 74 c419W
Mr. Yeo

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the value of the provisional approval granted by the Inland Revenue for schemes qualifying for tax relief under the business extension scheme and its predecessor the business start-up scheme for each year since the schemes were introduced.

Mr. Moore

About £18 million was invested under the business start-up scheme over its two-year life from 6 April 1981 to 5 April 1983. Information about investments under the business expansion scheme in 1983–84 is not yet complete, but they are known to total at least £75 million. The direct revenue costs of the reliefs are approximately 50 per cent. of the amounts invested.
