Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what additional amount would be paid to a qualified teacher at the starting point of grade 1 and to a qualified headteacher at the highest point of school group 14, respectively, if the current pay claim by teachers were accepted.

The teachers' current claim is that all teachers should receive the same increase of £1,200 pa from 1 April 1985.

Mr. Radice

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the average salary of full-time primary and secondary school teachers, excluding heads and deputy heads, in maintained schools in England and Wales for each year since 1973, in current prices and constant 1983–84 prices.
