§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what level of resources he proposes to devote to research projects undertaken by the National Physical Laboratory, the National Engineering Laboratory, the Warren Spring Laboratory and the Laboratory of the Government Chemist in the next three years.
§ Mr. ButcherThis financial year the total cost of the four laboratories will be about £61 million. However, they expect to earn around £17 million for repayment work from both the public and private sectors. Their net cost will therefore be in the region of £44 million. There are currently no plans to change this level of support.
