asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many acres of hill and marginal land were reclaimed in Wales in the last 12 months; what were the corresponding figures for the last 10 years; and if he will make a statement.

Separate records are not kept of the acreage of hill and marginal land that is reclaimed in Wales. The following figures show the amount of grant that has been paid on reclamation work under the farm capital grant schemes during the last seven years in the less favoured area of Wales. Statistics for earlier years are not available.
