asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will arrange for his Department to cease sending acknowledgement postcards, other than in a sealed envelope, when those cards refer to the name and addresses of constituents concerning whom hon. Members have been in correspondence.

Mr. Leon Brittan

I am not persuaded that the additional expenditure involved in placing all acknowledgement cards in sealed envelopes would be justified. I have, however, made special arrangements for the hon. Member's post to be dealt with in that way.
