§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, as part of the forthcoming review of the Burnham committee arrangements, he will consider the case for an independent secretariat for the teachers' panel and for the adoption of rules and standing orders for the conduct of business by the teachers' panel.
§ Sir Keith JosephI have decided to undertake a review of the composition of the teachers' panel of the Burnham primary and secondary committee under the powers granted to me by the Remuneration of Teachers Act 1965. The Act does not give the holder of my office any powers to determine the Committee's working arrangements. Matters relating to the secretariat and to standing orders are accordingly outside the purview of the review.
