§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to amend the Charities Act 1960 so as to make it a condition of charitable status that, in their employment policies and practices, charities follow a policy of strict nondiscrimination on religious grounds.
§ Mr. MellorThe charitable status of an organisation depends on whether its objects are charitable in law. It seems right that it should remain so and we therefore see no reason at present for singling out charities in this way.
