HC Deb 24 June 1985 vol 81 c313W
Mr. Boyes

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what arrangements were made by the Manpower Services Commission for the provision of sign language interpreters for deaf trainees on the youth training scheme for off-the-job training in colleges and elsewhere.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The Manpower Services Commission recognises the value of sign language interpreters for deaf young people on the youth training scheme. The prime responsibility for providing these interpreters rests with managing agents and sponsors, but the commission will consider paying for them on an individual basis when an unmet need has been identified and the costs cannot be met by the managing agent or sponsor.
