HC Deb 24 June 1985 vol 81 c288W
Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the total value of sales of military vehicles and equipment for each year since 1978.

Mr. Butler

It is not possible to identify figures separately for military vehicles. However, the total values of arms sales overseas in the years requested, up to the latest year for which information is available, are as follows:

Year *Identified Defence Equipment Estimates of Additional Military Equipment
£ million £ million
1978 588 1,017
1979 551 957
1980 693 1,290
1981 725 1,341
1982 988 1,268
1983 919 1,189
* Categories of equipment which can be identified through the Customs and Excise tariff.
† These goods are not distinguishable from similar goods for civilian purposes in Customs and Excise records. These estimates are based on information from the Society of British Aerospace Companies and individual electronics and motor vehicle manufacturing companies. Exports connected with international collaborative projects are excluded.
Note: Figures are expressed in 1983 constant prices.
