HC Deb 24 June 1985 vol 81 c287W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the total expenditure to date on phase one of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation base at Stornoway.

Mr. Lee

Expenditure on phase I is provisionally estimated to have been £8.9 million.

Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when the outcome of the review of the options at the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation base in Stornoway, referred to in his answer of 28 March 1985, Official Report, column 321, will be announced; whether it will involve on site inspections at the airport and around Broad bay; and whether the Stornoway airport sub-committee of the Western Islands council will be present.

Mr. Lee

The review is likely to be completed early next year. It will include a feasibility study to be undertaken by a commercial consultant who will require to conduct on site inspections and to discuss proposed resupply options with the Western Isles islands council.
