Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the latest figure for the number of jobs lost since June 1979 in (a) manufacturing industries and (b) all industries and services.

The seasonally adjusted number of employees in employment in Scotland is provisionally estimated to have fallen by 174,000 in manufacturing industries and by 163,000 in all industries and services between June 1979 and December 1984.
