§ Mr. Gouldasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer further to the answer dated 14 May, Official Report, column 85, concerning real exchange rates, if he will provide in addition figures to show (a) the relative export prices for manufactures and (b) the latest increase in the nominal rate in each case since the fourth quarter of 1984.
§ Mr. Ian StewartI regret that information on other countries' export prices is not available for the period since Q4 1984. It is not therefore possible to answer the first part of the question. Changes in sterling's nominal exchange rates since the fourth quarter of 1984 against certain other currencies are as follows:
