HC Deb 21 June 1985 vol 81 c254W
Mr. Campbell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the rate at which the salary of a student nurse has increased during each of the last 10 years, according to grade; and how this compares with the rate of inflation;

(2) if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the average weekly wage of a student nurse according to each of the three stages of training; and how this compares with each of the last 10 years.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The table shows, for a student nurse in each of the three years of training the basic weekly wage for the years 1974 to 1986 and the movements in those salaries as measured against changes in the retail prices index. The figures exclude the effect of the reduction in nurses' working hours from 40 to 37½ per week in 1980–81. We do not have comparable information on earnings.
