HL Deb 20 June 1985 vol 465 c476WA
Lord Kilmany

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will provide details of the quantity of alcohol which has been stolen from broken-down trains in the outskirts of Glasgow during each of the last two years.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

I understand that between July 1983 and June 1984 250 cases of beer and 4 cases of wine were stolen from freight trains in the suburbs of Glasgow. Seven arrests were made in connection with these thefts. From July 1984 to date, 25 kegs and 277 cases of beer, and 9 cases of whisky, were similarly stolen. Ten arrests have been made. These figures relate to all freight trains in the area, not just those affected by breakdown.
