HC Deb 18 June 1985 vol 81 c94W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will instruct Her Majesty's ambassador in Belgium to seek to obtain a copy of the forthcoming report of the inquiry by the Belgian Government into the incidents at the Heysel stadium, Brussels, on 29 May; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

A Belgian parliamentary commission of inquiry on the Heysel tragedy is due to deliver a report by 6 July. Her Majesty's embassy in Brussels will be in close touch with the Belgian authorities on this.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will instruct Her Majesty's ambassador to Italy to seek to obtain from the Italian authorities such information as may be available about progress in apprehending persons involved in alleged criminal offences in connection with the disaster at the Heysel stadium, Brussels, on 29 May; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

No. The primary responsibility for this rests with the Belgian authorities. I understand from my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary that the Belgian police authorities are in close touch with the Merseyside police, who are giving every assistance.
