Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much money the Health Education Council has spent on campaigns against hard drugs and alcohol problems, respectively, in each year since 1979; and what is its planned expenditure in the current year in real terms.

For 1985–86 the Health Education Council has budgeted to spend £100,000 in support of the Government's £2 million campaign on the prevention of drug misuse, and has received a grant of up to £85,000 from the Department of Education and Science for the development of a drug education package. The council's estimated expenditure on activity concerning alcohol misuse is £400,000. In addition, the council has granted £50,000 to the teachers advisory council on alcohol and drug education.
