HL Deb 17 June 1985 vol 465 c126WA
Lord Ennals

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps they are taking to ensure that the charitable trust for London announced during the Committee stage of the Local Government Bill in the House of Lords does not replace existing sources of funding nor anything provided for in Clause 47 of the Bill.

Lord Elton

We intend that the new London Trust should provide additional funds by drawing on new sources—the assets of the Greater London Council and private and corporate contributions. Generous transitional finance and strengthened administrative arrangements have been proposed to encourage the maintenance of funding from existing source.
