HC Deb 14 June 1985 vol 80 cc561-2W
Mr. John Mark Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has received any proposals from the Forestry Commission advocating the extension of exemption from capital transfer tax for lands of heritage value to ancient semi-natural woodlands, subject to their management meeting the approval of the Nature Conservancy Council and the Forestry Commission; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moore

I have not received any such proposals. Conservation objectives are already recognised in the capital transfer tax code, which provides exemption for land of outstanding scenic, historic or scientific interest, and for land essential for the protection of the character and amenities of a building of outstanding historic or scientific interest Woodlands may qualify for this relief if they represent an integral or primary element in either case.
