asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list in the Official Report those hospitals in the Greater London area which are equipped to perform abortions, how many beds each unit has, what is the latest average gestation period of weeks at which abortions are performed; and how many staff are employed in each unit

The following private hospitals and nursing homes in the Greater London area are approved by our Department under Section 1(3) of the Abortion Act:

Raleigh Nursing Home 19

We do not hold information centrally about the total numbers of staff employed in these places, or about facilities for abortions or related staff in NHS hospitals In 1983, the average gestation period at which abortions were carried out was 10.5 weeks This includes abortions carried out on resident and non-resident women
