Lord Inglewoodasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they will confirm reports that the police smashed the windows of a number of cars at Stonehenge on 1st June showering the occupants with glass; and if this is true, what was the purpose of the action.
§ Lord GlenarthurThe Chief Constable of Wiltshire Constabulary informs me that his officers, in accordance with a High Court injunction, stopped a convoy of vehicles approaching Stonehenge. The 1347WA drivers of a number of vehicles ignored police instructions to stop, and the police faced a situation in which vehicles were driven at them and missiles thrown at them. The police operation led to a number of arrests, and it would be wrong to comment further since courts will shortly have to decide on the precise circumstances of individual cases.
