Part-time Employment

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he is taking to encourage part-time employment.

We explained our strategy for employment in the White Paper "Employment—the Challenge for the Nation" (Cmnd. 9474). I announced on 15 March, in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for High Peak (Mr. Hawkins) at columns316–17, changes to help ensure that the job splitting scheme and the part-time job release scheme operate more flexibly. These experimental measures are designed to encourage changes in working patterns and to help in reducing unemployment.
