HC Deb 10 June 1985 vol 80 c372W
26. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has for the future operation of the Woolwich free ferry and the maintenance of piers, tunnels and bridges on the River Thames.

Mrs. Chalker

As the hon. Member knows, it is intended that the London boroughs of Greenwich and Newham become responsible for the operation of the ferry and that responsibility for bridges and tunnels passes to the successor authority for the roads concerned.

It is now proposed that, as announced on 6 June, the piers will transfer to the Thames water authority.
