HC Deb 06 June 1985 vol 80 c214W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will publish in the Official Report those persons who have been convicted of murder and upon release have murdered again for each of the last. 30 years.

(2) if he will publish in the Official Report a list of persons who have been murdered by persons who have been released from prison for murder for each of the last 30 years.

Mr. Mellor

In England and Wales, since 1946, when the present record system was introduced, five persons released on licence from a sentence of life imprisonment for murder were subsequently convicted of further offences of murder while at liberty: in addition one person released on licence from a sentence of imprisonment for murder was subsequently convicted of an offence of murder committed while serving a sentence of imprisonment in Northern Ireland. It is not the practice to publish the names of offenders and victims in theOfficial Report.
