HC Deb 03 June 1985 vol 80 c106W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if any outbreak of Legionnaire's disease has been reported in any hospitals in the Wirral and Liverpool area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

One isolated case was recently admitted to a Liverpool hospital and Legionnaire's disease was later confirmed. A second suspected case was admitted to a Wirral hospital but the disease has not been confirmed. I am afraid that it appears to be a feature of this disease that isolated sporadic cases occur regularly all over the country and no specific origin of the infection is usually detected.
