Mr. Corbyn

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what proportion of school leavers failed to register with the careers service within a reasonable period from the end of the last three school terms for which records are available;

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has about the drop-out rate from the youth training scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrisonx

Information about how long young people stay on the youth training scheme and what they do on leaving is available from records held by the Manpower Services Commission and from the com-mission's regular survey of young people who leave the scheme.

The most recent information relates to those who left the scheme between July and September 1984, and is set out as follows:

(2) what proportion of school leavers registered with the careers service failed to attend within three months of the end of the last three school terms for which records are available.
