HL Deb 30 July 1985 vol 467 c261WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many (a) Soviet and (b) Warsaw Pact vessels were in British ports or in United Kingdom territorial waters, and how many seamen were ashore during and in the period leading up to the Soviet exercises which are at present taking place in Northern waters.

Lord Trefgarne

Between 1st and 26th July there were a total of 121 calls by Soviet vessels at British ports. The information requested on the numbers of seamen ashore in the United Kingdom during this period is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
