asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many members of the Ulster Defence Regiment have been convicted of criminal offences.

Information covering all types of criminal offences is not available. However, since 1970 nine UDR members or ex-members have been convicted of murder and six of manslaughter. In addition, some 90 have been convicted of assault since 1978. The great majority of these offences were of a domestic nature.
