§ Mr. Freudasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what considerations were given to (a) the availability of temporary summer employment, (b) the cost of living for students and (c) the proportion of student income currently represented by housing and social security benefits, when drawing up the proposals to exclude students from eligibility for these benefits in the Green Paper on the reform of social security; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonThe Green Paper "Reform of Social Security" (Cmnd. 9517) states in broad terms the Government's policy on student access to the benefit system. How best to put that policy into practice will be for further consideration in the light of all the relevant factors.
