HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c968W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what information is available to his Department concerning the number and proportion of students who live in accommodation covered by approved tenancy agreements which include rental for part of the vacations; and what effect the proposals contained in the Green Paper, "Reform of Social Security" will have on these students and this sector of the housing market.

Mr. Newton

The number of students living in accommodation covered by tenancy agreements is not known. The Green Paper states the Government's general aim that students should have one channel of support through the education system rather than the income support or housing benefit schemes. What effect, if any, that policy would have for students with tenancies and the relevant sector of the housing market cannot be evaluated until detailed proposals have been drawn up.
