§ Mr. Dobsonasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total cost to the Revenue of tax concessions involving the establishment of private hospitals and clinics.
§ Mr. MooreThe hon. Member may have in mind tax relief under the business expansion scheme. About £4 million of the £100 million invested under the scheme in 1983–84 went into companies operating nursing homes or private hospitals. Information for 1984–85 is as yet too incomplete to provide a reliable estimate. At an average level of relief of 50 per cent., this represents about £2 million revenue cost.
