HC Deb 26 July 1985 vol 83 c869W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total cost to the Revenue of tax concessions involving the establishment of private hospitals and clinics.

Mr. Moore

The hon. Member may have in mind tax relief under the business expansion scheme. About £4 million of the £100 million invested under the scheme in 1983–84 went into companies operating nursing homes or private hospitals. Information for 1984–85 is as yet too incomplete to provide a reliable estimate. At an average level of relief of 50 per cent., this represents about £2 million revenue cost.
