Mr. Thurnham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in how many planning appeals during the last 12 months he has not accepted the inspector's recommendations; how many of these involved proposals for (a) residential development, and (b) more than 300 residential units.

[pursuant to his reply, 25 July 1985]: In 1984, 16 appeals were decided contrary to the inspector's recommendations. I shall write to my hon. Friend with the further information which he has requested.
